Testimonial: Building the NHS Nightingale Hospital with Henley training

By Josh Elliot (MSc International Business Management, 2013)

Days after the decision was made by the Government to establish the Nightingale Hospital at the Excel in London, I received a call asking whether I'd be willing to support.

Establishing an Intensive Care Unit, especially one of a potential 4000 bed capacity was always going to be a small challenge. Supporting the overarching procurement process was most certainly the most intense, stressful, chaotic, but collective and utterly rewarding work I've ever been involved with. The lessons and outlook I learned from the Henley Business School International Management programme without a doubt, provided me with invaluable tools and a core skillset that enabled me to work very effectively under enormous pressure; the content was highly relevant and very practically applicable. Understanding and applying what I'd absorbed on the programme was hugely rewarding, and helped me to create an environment around me where people were composed and focused. Combining this knowledge with a strong sense of purpose and humility, forged not only a high performing team, but also sparked friendships through shared experience that I foresee lasting some time yet.
