Henley Women in Business: What to do

Published on July 21, 2023

Henley Business School strongly believes that an education on gender topics is particularly important for business schools, and we are looking forward to delivering the next annual Henley Women in Business event on 19th October 2023.

The focus of the day - organised as a panel discussion followed by students-staff-professionals networking -  is on ‘what to do’: we want students, staff and professional guests to reflect and challenge conventional behaviours, and encourage and support women to take leadership roles in the corporate world. Academic research has proven that when highly qualified women are employed as members of the Board of Directors or in C-suites position, a firm’s performance can improve due to an enriched diversity of managerial skills and culture.

We will discuss issues related to gender-gap and gender-bias, share experiences, and draw general suggestions. We will promote a positive attitude in women towards avoiding and/or pro-actively solving these issues, by developing commercial awareness, confidence in negotiations, and fair evaluation of their own performance. We will also discuss the experience of women in entrepreneurship.

The event will see the participation of corporates, and we will have the opportunity to discuss how organisations are helping to promote gender equity, diversity, and inclusion and facilitating women’s access to jobs and career progression.

Ultimately, we aim to identify the elements that will help students improve their employability and that will help our corporate guests to further develop their own DEI practice.

The event has been running successfully for six years and has had a large appeal for all students. Henley Business School believes in fact that an education on such topics is important not only for women, but also for allies who will become women’s colleagues, managers, employees, as well as partners.
