Reflecting on 10 Years with RG10: A Farewell from the Chair
David White, former RG10 chair, covers his time with the RG10s.
"As I step down as Chair of RG10, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a fantastic journey not just over the last few years in this role, but across my 10 year involvement with the group. From when I first joined the committee in 2015, RG10 has been important for me as a community built on shared experiences at the University of Reading/ Henley Business School and an opportunity for genuine connection among younger alumni as well as learning about different parts of the real estate sector.
It has been a real privilege to serve as Chair, particularly during some of the unpredictable times which have helped create the strong foundation we have today. Leading RG10 through the pandemic was a challenge but it also brought opportunities to innovate as we pivoted to everything being online setting up a virtual panel on negotiation and webinars on influence and specific career development advice at an unsettling time as well as the ever popular Working Overseas Webinar series which continues as an annual virtual event.
I’m proud to see RG10 evolve as we've experimented with new ideas to broaden our reach and deepen our impact. From trying out bouldering, table tennis and recently padel alongside larger scale social events and more intimate dinners such as the Sustainability Supper and Pre-Pride Dinners which connected members with shared interests and prompted insightful conversations. RG10 has become more inclusive with more varied and engaging formats of events to open door for new members to expand their networks with existing members and learn in from one another in different environments.
None of this would have been possible without the energy and creativity of the committee, a huge thank you to every committee member who volunteers their time, your dedication and proactivity have made all the difference and hasn't gone unnoticed. I want to give particular thanks to Ryan and Lauren, who now step into the Co-Chair roles. Their passion, professionalism, and clear vision for the future make me confident that RG10 is in good hands and the future is bright.
To those who have attended events, shared feedback, joined webinars or simply stayed connected – thank you. RG10 thrives because of the people in it. I’d encourage anyone reading this to get involved: come to an event, bring a friend, join the committee or suggest an idea. This group is shaped by its members and your voice matters.
For those who graduated in 2015 – our ten-year reunion is this year and we’re catching up over a drink on 30 October at the Starman, Heddon Street. It’s a perfect time to reconnect and celebrate how far we’ve come since graduating - do get in contact if you’d like to join.
Leading RG10 has been a privilege and I look forward to watching it continue to grow under the leadership of Ryan and Lauren and hope to see many of you at events in the future."
