In light of the current economic situation's impact on students, we are working to increase the availability of financial support for Henley students. In this context we had the opportunity to catch-up with a Henley graduate and past recipient of a Henley bursary. We discussed with her the significance of the support provided and how it has influenced her academic and professional journey.
Providing some background, she shared, “I arrived in the UK from Romania three years ago to pursue a degree in Accounting and Management at Henley Business School. Inspired by my mother, who worked as an accountant, I developed a keen interest in the field and attended a specialized school in Romania before enrolling at Henley Business School.”
“The bursary” she continued “was immensely helpful to me since I was not eligible for a maintenance loan. It provided crucial support for covering essential expenses such as rent, bills, and food. Consequently, I only needed to work a part-time job while studying full-time, unlike some of my friends who had to work full-time jobs.”
We then asked her about the specific achievements that the Henley Bursary made possible, and she shared that, “The bursary opened doors for me to pursue a career, and recently I secured a job in finance. Additionally, I am currently preparing for my Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exam, for which I have been able to save funds.”
In closing, your fellow Henley alumna conveyed a message to our community: “All students, whether domestic or international, are currently grappling with the increasing cost of living. This underscores the crucial support that our community can provide. We have all been students and understand the importance of opportunities that alleviate the stress on students and their families. I urge everyone to consider making a gift, no matter what its size, to the Henley Student Support Fund and help students achieve their goals, enabling them to make positive contributions to society."
