I am currently working as a Human Resources & Administration (HRA) and Sales Executive, while also serving as an Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator (OSH-C) in Malaysia. My role is diverse and challenging, as it involves managing HR and administrative matters, supporting sales activities, building relationships with clients, and ensuring that workplace safety and health requirements are met. Being entrusted with responsibilities across different functions has helped me develop strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Looking back on my journey, I can say that my time at Henley Business School played a significant role in preparing me for the professional world. One of the most valuable lessons I learned at Henley was how to become more independent when facing challenges and solving problems. Rather than relying on others for answers, I learned how to analyze situations, think critically, and make informed decisions. These skills have been extremely useful in my current role, where I often need to handle multiple responsibilities and resolve issues efficiently.
Henley also helped me improve my communication skills tremendously. Through group assignments, presentations, discussions, and interactions with classmates from different backgrounds, I became more confident in expressing my ideas and communicating professionally. Today, these skills are essential in my work, whether I am coordinating with employees, discussing business opportunities with customers, conducting meetings, or ensuring compliance with workplace safety requirements.
Another aspect of my Henley experience that I truly appreciate is the opportunity to learn from highly experienced lecturers. Their industry knowledge, practical insights, and real-life examples helped bridge the gap between theory and practice. Listening to their experiences gave me a better understanding of the challenges and expectations in the working world. The lecturers not only taught academic concepts but also shared valuable life lessons and professional advice that continue to guide me today.
Beyond academics, Henley encouraged me to develop important soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, time management, and adaptability. These skills have become increasingly important in my career, especially when balancing the demands of HR, administration, sales, and occupational safety responsibilities. The ability to work effectively with different people, manage priorities, and adapt to changing situations has helped me grow both professionally and personally.
The knowledge, experiences, and confidence I gained during my time at Henley have provided me with a strong foundation for my career. I am grateful for the education, support, and opportunities that Henley offered, as they have helped shape the professional I am today. My journey at Henley was not only about earning a degree but also about developing the mindset, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace and continue growing throughout my career.
What is one piece of advice you would share with a current student at Henley to inspire them in their career journey?
Every experience, whether good or bad, teaches you something valuable that will help shape your future career. Don't compare your journey to others. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and success looks different for each person. Instead, focus on improving yourself, building your skills, and gaining experience. Be open to feedback, take on new challenges, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Most importantly, stay resilient. There will be obstacles, setbacks, and moments when things do not go according to plan, but those challenges often become the greatest learning opportunities. Keep a positive attitude, work hard, and trust that your efforts will eventually lead you to where you are meant to be. Success is not about reaching a destination quickly, it's about continuous growth and never giving up on your goals.
