Alumna - Marjan Minnesma
We are saddened to hear of the passing of prominent alumnus Marjan Minnesma, who graduated from Henley in 1993.
Marjan went on to become one of Europe’s most influential voices in climate action and sustainability having been named 'most influential person in the field of sustainability’ in the Netherlands in three consecutive years (2011-2013) by newspaper Trouw. As the founder and director of the Dutch sustainability organisation Urgenda, she gained international recognition for the landmark climate case brought against the Dutch government, helping establish a legal obligation for stronger action on climate change.
Throughout her career, Marjan was admired for her energy, conviction and ability to bring together governments, businesses and communities around shared environmental goals. Tributes following her passing in May 2026 described her as an inspirational and pioneering force within the global sustainability movement.
Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations on the importance of sustainability and climate action at Henley and beyond.
